How to: Whip your hair in shape

As Summer is coming to a close (sad face) and Fall is on the horizon, I can't help but think back on all the compromizing situations I've put my hair through over the past few months. All that sun, sand and chlorine are drying and damaging! If you have been wanting to get your hair back in tip top shape, read on to get my professional advice with help from Oribe and Kerastase.

It is possible to have that healthy, shinny hair you've been dreaming about.

Masque.

Using a nourishing hair masque once or twice a week is a must. You will want to leave the masque on for 3 to 15 minutes, giving the product time to penetrate your hair cuticle.

The ideal ritual would be using the masque in the bath: wet and shampoo hair, then towel dry and put a quater size amount of the masque thru midlengths and ends, put your hair in a plastic cap and relax for 15 minutes, then rinse.

The more time practical, shower friendly way to masque is to squeeze all excess water from your hair after shampooing and apply the masque, then shave your legs! Using the time spent shaving to double as masque time.

Haircut/Dusting.

Getting regular trims will keep split ends from working there way up your strands and creating frizzy ends. Frayed ends make your hair look unhealthy and will not grow any longer, as they are fragile and compormised. When I'm cutting a half inch or less I call it a dusting- just nipping the ends while maintaining the length, a necessity for keeping your hair healthy!

One of my Cosmetology teachers told me in school: 'Treat your hair like a delicate peice of silk'. This really rings true. Be gentle with your hair and it will show.
